Lucky Leprechaun Day!

Everyone’s Irish for the Day at the Museum. Learn about Irish history, join in various crafts and activities, enjoy some yummy refreshments and take home a lucky coin from our pot o’ gold.
Appropriate for ages 5-10 years old.

PIRATE ADVENTURE DAYSaturday, March 12th
2 PM
Set sail for an afternoon of pirate adventures. Participating pirates will get their faces painted; make their own paper parrot companion and official pirate hat. Attendees will then be given a treasure map leading them throughout the Museum in search of treasure. All pirates will end the afternoon with a story and a snack consisting of gold coin booty.

10 AM - 5 PM
Research a historic recipe, cook it and enter it in the Museum’s 2nd annual Colonial Cooking Contest. Participants are asked to use a recipe from Early American times (cookbooks and recipes are available at the Museum) and make it as close as possible to the original recipe. Dishes will be judged and awards will be granted. Children’s (12 and under) & Family division will take place at 10am. The adult division will take place at 2pm.

New Exhibit Opening!
The exhibit, Mariners, Merchants & Pirates, will explore Early American seafaring techniques, tools and methods. Visitors will learn about the nautical navigation system of the time and take a close look at the wide variety of artifacts on display that were used in this direction finding process.
In addition, Museum patrons will have the opportunity to discover more about pirates and privateers in New Jersey, the early effort to establish a major port in Perth Amboy, the types of goods and resources that shipped from New Jersey’s shores, and the basic tools of a salty tar (what sailors were called because of their water proofed clothes).
Included in the new exhibit will be various hands-on elements that will further explore the Early American maritime.
Mariners, Merchants & Pirates will open to the public Tuesday, February 1st and remain open through Sunday, September 4, 2011 and will offer visitors many unique and interesting programs throughout its duration.
On Sunday, January 9th at 2:00 PM the Museum of Early Trades & Crafts will host an afternoon Harp Ensemble featuring harpist Odarka Stockert. Join musician Odarka Stockert as she gathers seven of her fellow harpists in one unbelievable afternoon of music. Be swept away with the beauty of the sound of this harp ensemble and enjoy.
Odarka Polanskyj Stockert is an accomplished harpist with a repertoire spanning the centuries — from Classical to Broadway to Folk. Based in Millburn, New Jersey, she performs on both the concert pedal harp and the folk harp, and is available to play a variety of engagements; including weddings, corporate functions, holiday concerts, medieval events, and children’s programs.
Odarka was a long time student of celebrated concert harpist, the late Leone Paulso
n, of South Orange, New Jersey, with whom she performed as a member of the Paulson Harp Ensemble. She spent several summers in Dublin, Ireland, in workshop studies and participating in the O’Carolan Irish Harp and Granard Harp Competitions, winning awards and honors in both.
She is also a collaborator of the Yara Arts Group based at the La Mama, ETC in New York and has performed in many Yara events and productions. Additionally, she is a founding member of Glendalough’s Muse, a celtic flute and harp duo and Suenos del Alma, a latin inspired harp and violin duo. Odarka lives in Millburn, with her husband Thomas, and daughters Sophia and Ariadna.
