Downtown Concert Series
The FrostKings are a three to five-piece R&B, swing and blues band originating from the North Jersey area. Familiar to music fans in Northern and Central Jersey, and Southern New York State, the FrostKings have played many festivals and venues over the last few years. Some of their recent performances include: J&R Cigars, Kristine’s Swing Dances, the Chester Jazz & Blues Festival, the Morris and Somerset County 4H Fairs, Sussex County Chamber Champion of the Grill BBQ, Attilio’s Tavern, and the Westfield and North Branch Libraries.
The band is made up of Jim Davis on saxophone/clarinet, Big Al Krotoff on guitar and vocals, bassman Brad Vickers and Harry “Hurricane” Fiorilli on drums. They have been together a little more than eight years and have blended their diverse musical styles and backgrounds to form one tight-knit band. Equally at home playing swinging shuffles, slow blues or full-tilt boogies, their repertoire ranges from the West Coast swing stylings of Louis Jordan and T-Bone Walker, to the classic blues of Luther Johnson, B.B. King, Eddie “Clean Head” Vinson and Muddy Waters, to the R&B of Wilson Pickett and Herbie Hancock.

The Downtown Concert Series is a series of nine FREE Friday evening, family-friendly concerts, held every other Friday until September 30th, outside on the lawn of the Museum. Guests are encouraged to spend some time after the concerts in downtown Madison where they can explore the town’s many unique shops and restaurants.

Housed in a 1900 Richardsonian-Romanesque Revival building listed on the National Register of Historic places, the Museum explores 18th- and 19th-century American history, with a focus on New Jersey. Drawing on its collection of over 8,000 hand tools and their products, METC uses material culture to interpret the lives and technologies of people who lived and worked before the rise of large-scale industrialization in this country. The Museum offers visitors of all ages a broad range of changing exhibits, and related programs that address many facets of early American history, craftsmanship, and the diversity of trades performed by men and women.

Kirby Foundation and Morris County Board of Chosen Freeholders. The Museum of Early Trades & Crafts invites guests to the FREE Downtown Concert Series, presented by The Arts Council of the Morris Area, Star Ledger, Blue Ridge Mountain Sports, The Provident Bank, and Whole Foods, featuring the Jazz/Delta Blues/Swing band, Kati & the Lil’ Swing Band.
Kati and the Lil' Swing Band is made-up of four seasoned musicians. Vocalist and leader Kati Beddow Brower, hails from Matawan, NJ. She has been a vocalist since she was a young teen in Detroit and has recorded with a wide variety of metro area musicians. Guitar Stylist Bo Pezzullo, of Highland, NJ, has been playing the guitar since a teen. He has played with some of the greatest blues players of our time. Drummer John Fanizzo, from Point Pleasant, NJ, has been in a number of jazz groups, including the blues band The Incinerators. Bassist Ted Palumbo, of Carteret, has been playing bass since he was young and has numerous recording experiences.
Together they have created a band whose sounds are sure to get your toes a tapping and your fingers a snapping. Don’t miss this popular Downtown Concert Series band!

On Saturday, July 9th from 1 pm to 3 pm the Museum of Early Trades & Crafts will host its poplar Family Fun Day, Ice Cream Social.
Bring the family for an afternoon of yummy treats, hands-on activities and face painting. Attendees will have the opportunity to create their own ice cream sundae with delicious ice cream and toppings. Afterwords visitors can get their face painted and play a variety of games both inside and out on the lawn of the Museum.

Summer Camp for a DayCamp for a Day offers a fun-filled day of camp activities without the long term commitment. Campers will learn about different aspects of history and participate in a variety of hands-on craft projects based on the Museum’s exhibits. Camp themes include the Mariners, Merchants & Pirates exhibit, pirates, shells, a traditional tea party and much more.
Campers may pick and choose as many camp sessions as they please.
July’s Camps:
Navigation and Knots, Tuesday, July 12th - Campers will learn how sailors navigated the seas with compasses and other instruments. Activities include making a simple compass, the history of string and ropes and how they have and are used today in sailing and other activities. Campers will practice knot tying and will take home rope and a handout of knots to use in their everyday lives. Crafts include a chain knot bracelet/necklace.
Pirate Adventure Day I, Wednesday, July 20th - Campers will have fun being a pirate for the day. Participants will learn about the life of a pirate and get to take part in a number of pirate themed activities including games and crafts.
Seashells and Sailor Valentines, Thursday, July 28th - Campers will tour the Mariners, Merchants & Pirate exhibit, focusing on identifying the shells on display. Participants will learn about the history of the Sailor Valentines and will make their own Sailor Valentine craft to take home.
August’s Camps:
Pirate Booty! Tuesday, August 2nd - A pirate’s most priced possessions are the booty they find and hide away! Campers will have fun making their own treasure box and filling it with the treasures that each camper makes. Jewels, fun pins, ring and gold doubloons will be made to stash away and play with later at home. Campers will also make their own treasure map so they will always know where their booty box is!
Pirate Adventure Day II, Wednesday, August 10th - Campers will have fun being a pirate for the day. Participants will learn about the life of a pirate and get to take part in a number of pirate themed activities including games and crafts.
Pirate Tales, Thursday, August 18th - There is nothing like a great pirate adventure! Campers will write and draw their own adventure storybook to take home with them! They will be involved with creating Pirate characters, designing a pirate flag, and making up an adventure story. Campers will also participate in drawing one picture for a Pirate Adventure Coloring Book. The coloring book will be produced for each pirate…. uh, we mean camper, to take home.
Caleb the Carpenter, Tuesday, August 23rd - Named in honor of Caleb Burroughs, a carpenter here in Madison during the 1800s, participants will learn about Early American tools. Campers will use a variety of tools to create a number of carpentry projects during the day.
Dolly & Me Tea Party, Wednesday, August 31st - Bring your dolly and treat her to an afternoon tea. Campers will learn about Colonial dolls and will make a variety of crafts, including spoon dolls, placemats and decorative fans. The day will end with games and a lovely tea party.
Campers are asked to bring a bag lunch, sun screen and extra drinks if hot out. Activities are both outside and inside the Museum.
Anyone under the age of 6 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
Members: $25 for any 1 session and $65 for any 3. Non-Members: $30 for any 1 session and $80 for any 3 sessions.
