Dolly & Me Tea Party Camp |
The Museum of Early Trades & Crafts
will host unique one day summer
camps for children ages 7-12. Each Camp
for a Day session will run from 10am
to 2pm.
Camp for a Day offers a fun-filled day of camp
activities without the long term commitment.
Campers will learn about different aspects of history and participate in
a variety of hands-on craft projects based on the Museum’s exhibits.
Campers may
pick and choose as many camp sessions as they please.
July’s Dates & Themes:
A Patchwork of History, Thursday, July 26th
Campers will
learn the art of quilting and learn about quilts that were made by Early
Americans, slaves, and Americans today.
Crafts will include various quilt-making activities.
The 3 R's--Reduce, Reuse,
Recycle,
Tuesday, July 31st
Campers will
learn about the importance of recycling--even in Early American times--and make
a variety of crafts with recycled and "found" objects.
August’s Dates & Themes:
Griffins, Gargoyles &
Dragons,
Wednesday, August 8th
Campers will
tour the Museum building to see the gargoyles on the roof, the griffin in the
garden, and the dragon in the Main Gallery fireplace. After learning about these mythological
creatures, participants will take part in a variety of activities including,
making dragons, recreating (kinesthetically) a dragon, and artistically
rendering their own original mythological creatures.
Material Matters Thursday, August 16th
An
exploration of weaving and textile arts. Campers will view the current
exhibit Spinning Tales: The Fabric of New Jersey and use a variety of
materials to create fabulous one-of-a-kind art and textile pieces.
You've Been Framed!, Tuesday, August 21st
As campers near
summer's end, learning about frames and making a variety of frame crafts is a
perfect way to preserve the season's memories. Campers are encouraged to bring
photos for framing.
Dolly & Me Tea Party Wednesday, August 29th
Bring your
dolly and treat her to an afternoon tea.
Campers will learn about Colonial dolls and will make a variety of
crafts, including spoon dolls, placemats and decorative fans. The day will end with games and a lovely tea
party.

Members: $25
for any 1 session and $65 for any 3.
Non-Members: $30 for any 1 session and $80 for any 3 sessions.
Campers are
asked to bring a bag lunch, sun screen and extra drinks if hot out. Activities are both outside and inside the
Museum.
