Teddy Bear Picnic

Monday, November 14^th from 4 pm to 5 pm bring your teddy bear and celebrate National Teddy Bear Day at Museum of Early Trades & Crafts with a Teddy Bear Picnic.

Gather around our Museum Educator and listen to teddy bear stories. Take part in teddy bear crafts and activities. Sample some yummy teddy bear treats and enjoy an afternoon of teddy bear fun!

Investing in Our Children

On Wednesday, November 2nd from 6 pm to 8 pm, the Board of Trustees of the Museum of Early Trades & Crafts invites guests to join them at the Museum for a special reception to raise money for its educational programs. The event, Investing in Our Children, celebrates the Museum and honors Investors Bank.

All proceeds from this fundraiser directly benefit the educational programs at the Museum. Guests at Investing in Our Children will enjoy wines from Gary's Wine & Marketplace, the engaging music of Brynn Stanley of Basking Ridge and delicious catering by Divine Catering. There will also be a silent auction where bidders can take advantage of a wide variety of unique items-all for a good cause.

A Weekend of Whimsies-Woodworking

Saturday, November 5^th & Sunday, November 6<sup>th

On Saturday, November 5^th & Sunday, November 6^th at 1 pm try your hand at making a whimsy creation at the Museum of Early Trades & Crafts.

Have the opportunity to create your very own old-fashioned homemade toy, inspired by the whimsical animal toys of Ken Olson. Participants will make sculptures of animals, real or imaginary, using an assortment of wooden pieces, letting the different shapes inspire their creations. After assembly, participants will also have the chance to paint and decorate their sculptures.

Saturday, November 5^th workshop is open to children and their families and Sunday, November 6^th workshop is open to teens and adults.

Toy Making

Saturday, October 15^th

11am-3pm

Meet craftsman Herb Kean and his apprentice as they demonstrate how to make simple wooden toys. Visitors are encouraged to ask questions and discuss toy making. Throughout this on-going demonstration, attendees will get hands-on opportunities to assist Herb.

The Mood Swings to Perform for at the Museum of Early Trades & Crafts

Museum invites guests to the Downtown Concert Series, presented by The Arts Council of the Morris Area, Star Ledger, Blue Ridge Mountain Sports, The Provident Bank, and Whole Foods, featuring the Classic Rock band, The Mood Swings.

The Mood Swings is an all-gal classic rock band that was formed in the Fall of 2005. The seven women, all moms, have been playing in a variety of venues in Morris, Union and Essex County. The band has also played several fundraisers and recently performed at the prestigious gala for the Partnership for a Drug Free New Jersey held at the Pleseantdale Chateau in West Orange.

As a special treat the band, No Shame featuring Connor Forde on guitar and vocals, Neil Forde on guitars and vocals and Alex Vezza on drums, will open the concert and will be performing from 6-6:30pm.

This final concert of the season is sure to get you up off your feet!

Guests are encouraged to spend some time after the concerts in downtown Madison where they can explore the town’s many unique shops and restaurants.

New Exhibit Opens

Whimsies:
Ken Olsen & the American Folk Art Tradition

In the new exhibit, Whimsies: Ken Olsen & the American Folk Art Tradition,
visitors will be delighted by the artistic and amusing creations of artist/craftsman Ken Olsen (1921-2010). Designed in a traditional American Folk Art style, his pieces will come to life and fascinate patrons of all ages.

A longtime resident of Madison, New Jersey, Ken Olsen, was inspired by his 18^th century house and its Americana décor. His pieces, which he referred to as “whimsies,” were deeply rooted in the American Folk Art tradition and were made with the intention to bring entertainment to its viewer. His creations followed such traditional folk themes as whirligigs, signs, and patriotic figures. His works also celebrated the founding fathers, his own family, nature, story telling and modern day themes.

This exhibit pays respect to the work of Ken Olsen and lightheartedly explores its historical precedents.

Throughout the exhibit’s duration, various public programs, events and activities will take place. Whimsies: Ken Olsen & the Folk Art Tradition will be open to the public until Sunday, January 15^th.
