Tricks-N-Treats, Saturday, October 31st 1 PM - 3 PM

Teddy Bear Picnic, Saturday, November 14th 1 PM - 3 PM
Bring your teddy bear and help us honor National Teddy Bear Day, with a Teddy Bear Picnic for both human and stuffed visitors alike. Gather around our Museum Educator and listen to teddy bear stories. Take part in a fun teddy bear craft. Enjoy yummy teddy bear treats and an evening of teddy bear fun! Wine & Song, Saturday, November 14th 6 PM - 8 PM

Jewelry Making Workshop for Children, Sunday, December 6th 2 PM
Join professional jewelry maker and Museum Educator, Kati Brower as she leads a jewelry workshop using memory wire. Jewelry Making Workshop for Adults, Sunday, December 13th 2 PM
Make your own jewelry with professional jewelry maker and Museum Educator Kati Brower. Kati will lead adults in a workshop that will teach participants how to make jewelry using such styles as cable or stringing. Colonial Cooking Contest Sunday, January 10th 2 PM
Open to visitors of all ages, research a historic recipe, cook and enter it in the Museum’s first ever Colonial Cooking Contest. Participants are asked to use a recipe from Early American times (cookbooks and recipes are available at the Museum) and make it as close as possible to the original recipe. Dishes will be judged and awards will be granted. Space is limited. Pre-registration required by Friday, January 8th. Historic Food Preservation and More Sunday, January 10th 3 PM
Discover how Colonials survived before electricity, canning or even the knowledge of the germ theory. Join Mercy Ingraham, historic food expert and open hearth and fire-cook as she demonstrates the various ways Colonials preserved food so it would last throughout the year. She will also explain how to use a number of kitchen utensils that can be found in the Museum’s main exhibit, Food for Thought. Space is limited. Pre-registration recommended. Stuffed Animal Sleepover, Wednesday, March 31st 4 - 5 PM - Thursday, April 1st Regular Hours
Bring your favorite stuffed animal or doll for a sleepover on Tuesday, March 31st. Enjoy a snack and story time with your toy and then tuck them in to spend the night at the Museum. Come back on Wednesday, April 1st between the hours of 10 am and 4 pm to pick up your stuffed animal, make a craft and find out what mischief they have gotten into during the night! Our popular education programs focus on how people lived and worked in the 18th and 19th centuries. Meeting New Jersey's Core Curriculum Content Standards, children get a hands-on lesson about history. Programs can be held at the Museum or brought to your facility. The Museum offers a variety of tours and programs for senior citizens or adult groups. Each program provides demonstrations and discussions. Optional crafts are also available. Preschool & Young Children’s Groups

The Museum has a number of programs perfect of young children. Mothers, babysitters and mother’s helpers are encouraged to book a program that will entertain their little one in a safe and enjoyable atmosphere. Programs can be booked for groups of 5-10, so bring friends, neighbors or fellow club members with their children for a nice afternoon at the Museum. Regular Museum admission is $5.00 for adults, $3.00 for seniors, students & children and FREE for Members. Family maximum admission $13.00. The Museum is open Tuesday – Saturday 10 A.M. to 4 P.M. and Sunday Noon to 5 P.M. Closed Mondays & Major Holidays. (SUMMER HOURS- July & August, Tuesday-Saturday 10 A.M. to 4 P.M. and Closed Sunday & Monday.)

Housed in a 1900 Richardsonian-Romanesque Revival building listed on the National Register of Historic places, the Museum explores 18th- and 19th-century American history, with a focus on New Jersey. Drawing on its collection of over 8,000 hand tools and their products, METC uses material culture to interpret the lives and technologies of people who lived and worked before the rise of large-scale industrialization in this country. The Museum offers visitors of all ages a broad range of changing exhibits, and related programs that address many facets of early American history, craftsmanship, and the diversity of trades performed by men and women.

The Museum of Early Trades & Crafts received a General Operating Support Grant from the Borough of Madison, Charles Read Foundation, F.M. Kirby Foundation and Morris County Board of Chosen Freeholders. The Museum of Early Trades & Crafts received an operating support grant from the New Jersey Historical Commission, a division of the Department of State.
