New Exhibit Opening!




Mariners, Merchants & Pirates

The exhibit, Mariners, Merchants & Pirates, will explore Early American seafaring techniques, tools and methods. Visitors will learn about the nautical navigation system of the time and take a close look at the wide variety of artifacts on display that were used in this direction finding process.

In addition, Museum patrons will have the opportunity to discover more about pirates and privateers in New Jersey, the early effort to establish a major port in Perth Amboy, the types of goods and resources that shipped from New Jersey’s shores, and the basic tools of a salty tar (what sailors were called because of their water proofed clothes).

Included in the new exhibit will be various hands-on elements that will further explore the Early American maritime.

Mariners, Merchants & Pirates will open to the public Tuesday, February 1st and remain open through Sunday, September 4, 2011 and will offer visitors many unique and interesting programs throughout its duration.

Everyone is invited to a Dragon Pajama Party at the Museum. Come ready for bed, make some dragon crafts and meet dragon puppet "Hermione…" as she recites some of her favorite dragon stories.

Appropriate for children 2-6 years old.
